I still haven’t decided upon a focued question for this paper. There are so many aspects. I would like to examine the driving forces of the continuation of globalization Friedman gave us the flatteners to get us to today but what’s next?) I am also considering a compartive analysis between countries such as a third world/developing/develpoped nations, comparision based on regional geography, or a comparitive anaylsis of governement policy or MNC’s as driving forces or actors of globalization. PLEASE HELP!!! FEEDBACK IS MUCH APPRECIATED! WHAT IS NOT BEING ADDRESSED THAT I CAN TAKE CARE OF!?!?

As I read your entries from the beginning of this blog I find you to be wrestling with some of the major issues of globalization; what is it? who are the players? how do MNC’s fit in? how is it affecting US workers? These are HUGE questions and you simply cannot address them in-total in one paper.
Taking a cue from your bit on the auto industry, try thinking about how the situation of US auto workers is changing. Particularly, the big US manufacturers are laying off workers and moving work off shore. Meanwhile, the number of US automobile workers is not falling since the foreign companies with plants in the US are hiring US workers at about the same rate as they are being let go by the US firms. What is this doing to the standard of living of US auto workers?

Another direction you might consider is following the impact of the Grameen Bank. Since they were awarded the Nobel Peace Prize a week or so ago there has been lots of attention paid to them. Perhaps some analysis on their impact might be interesting.
Or, if you are interested in MNC’s, try tracing the behavior and impact of Nike. They have been the poster-child for what is wrong with globalization up until a few years ago. Now they have disappeared from the scene as an example of wrong-doing. What happened and how has it affected both Nike and the areas where they are located?

Hi Brian `
Maybe I should introduce myself, now that I have commented on your work ;~0.
I am an econ prof at Elon down in North Carolina. While I am essentially a microeconomist, my reserach and areas of interest are in the history of econ thought, distributional ethics, and economic justice. For the “straight skinny” on me, ask Dr. Greenlaw!
